STUDIES
Teaching is carried out in the form of a network university where the students are enrolled at participating universities. Each participating university department approves the semiotics curriculum annually, based on a proposal by the Network University’s Director. In this way, the studies are incorporated in the university’s curriculum. Online studies may comprise study courses that are already included in the curriculum at any of the participating universities’ departments.
Semiotics studies included in the Network University study block are divided into basic and intermediate studies. Advanced studies are also organised for post-graduate students. The curriculum has been drafted taking into consideration the new, bipartite degree structure. Students can include their semiotics studies at the Network University in their university degree (BA and MA degrees) either as a minor subject (basic and intermediate studies) or integrated in the certificate studies of other subjects. Detailed information on including the studies in their degree is available to students from the Network University’s Study Secretary or the contact person at the student’s own university. Studies are based on studies completed at the university where the student is majoring, i.e. the student’s own university.
Another goal is that students of semiotics at the Network University may get permission from their professor to write the master's thesis linked to semiotics in their major subject. In this way, the students graduate from their own university in their major subject focusing on semiotics with an MA or MSc in philosophy, economics, agriculture/forestry, social sciences etc. The thesis supervisor can be a teacher in the student’s major subject or a Network University lecturer who specialises in semiotics.
